Newsletter #2: New Single, Summer tour
August 2022
Hi everyone, I hope this finds you and yours happy, healthy and enjoying the summer.
I am just off a tour in Italy, where I had the chance to play with some wonderful musicians in some truly beautiful places, (including the 16th century Palazzo d’Avalos in Vastos, pictured here). Check out my tour photo journal on Instagram for more. The first single for my new record, Let Go, is available to stream anywhere you enjoy music. |
Newsletter #1: Intentions, new album, travel ...
March 2022
Happy 2022! My hope for everyone is a year of balance, health of body, mind and spirit.
2022 began with intense preparation for my next album, to be released this fall on Cellar Live. Recorded just a few weeks ago at Van Gelder Studios, the quintet featured the great Terell Stafford, Jeb Patton, Neal Miner and Willie Jones III. Thanks to the support of Cory Weeds and Cellar Live, I was able to focus almost exclusively on the music, setting up what was a successful day all around. I can not wait to share the music with all of you! I set intentions for the day, crafted with the help of a loved one. The central theme was this: the generosity of letting go. It is the ultimate act of kindness, to let go and accept what is true. My truth was to be present, calm, and to take deep, joyful breaths so I might fill the room with a warm, big sound; to swing hard and with purpose, and feel the spirit of those who came before. Music, above all else is an act of giving. Let go, give, be true to the values I hold as a person and as a musician - this was my intention. With the session but a few days behind me, I found myself on a plane headed to Cartagena, Columbia. My last trip abroad was on tour with my trio in western Canada, right before the pandemic began, January of 2020. Needless to say, I was ready for a bit of time away from New York. The warm (hot!) weather, bright sun, exotic fruits, delicious drinks and wonderful company was the perfect recipe to recharge and reset. There is a certain amount of reflection we all do when traveling. I couldn’t help but think how fortunate, how privelged I am, to live a life of music. The pursuit of purpose as privilege…more thoughts on that next time. Until then, stay well and hope to see you soon. |
